Abstract

This paper aims to present an insight of Islamic philosophy towards physical construction and embellishment of Masajid in contrast to its spiritual conception i.e., the establishment of Masajid with a‘mal. This work explores the meaning of two different approaches of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) towards construction and embellishment of Masjid Nabvi: (i) condemnation of the idea of Abdullah bin Rawaha (r.a), who was thrilled to reconstruct and embellish Masjid Nabvi in Syrian architecture (b) while, on the contrary, glad tidings to Tamim Dari (r.a), on illuminating the Masjid with special kind of Palestinian lanterns. The work also cast light on the meaning and significance of ‘the establishment of Masajid with a‘mal’ in context of the a‘mal performed in Masjid Nabvi. References are taken from the holy Quran, Ahadith Nabvi and Athar of Sahaba. This work is significant for Muslim Ummah in general and Islamic reformist in special who strive sincerely to regain the lost grandeur of Muslim Ummah.
